Drake Irish Dancers of Fort Walton Beach was established in October of 2004. There was a growing interest to have a certified Irish Dance school in our area because it would give dancers many opportunities to compete and to grow as a dancer. After attending Karl Drake’s first workshop in the local area, dancers from the Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, and Panama City area eagerly became the first dancers for this branch.

After just two months, a handful of dancers attended their first feis in Orlando, Florida. Since then, we have grown to a group of 40+ dancers. All but a few of these dancers are competitive. We are proud to have produced 2 preliminary champions, which have now moved up to become Open Champions, and one qualifier for the World Championship Competition in just our first two years. We currently have 12 champions (5 of which have achieved the highest level of Open Champion), 7 National Qualifiers and TWO World Qualifiers!

Our dancers not only compete, but they perform on a regular basis. These dancers have performed at a wide variety of venues from the Destin Commons to Assisted Living facilities to our biggest performances to date, the Village of Baytowne Wharf in Destin and Seaside on St. Patrick’s Day! Performing is definitely fun for the dancers and our group is always ready to entertain!

Drake Irish Dancers of FWB continues to grow rapidly and we are very excited about the opportunities that are yet to come for these young dancers! This branch is under the direction of Cindy Brainerd, TCRG.
